I think it's really interesting how you mention the impact that where your dad grew up had on the music you listened to growing up. My mom was raised in Jamaica and didn't come to the US until her mid-20s, so a lot of the music I heard growing up was music that was popular in Jamaica in the 70s and 80s, which is a weird mix of disco, reggae, and American pop music.
